About Me
The name Junebugs comes from my childhood memories of summers spent with my grandparents. It is said, that when you hear the Junebugs call, early in the morning it means that it will be extra hot that day.
I grew-up amongst baskets of fabric scraps, shoeboxes full of buttons and trims and the hum of a sewing machine. My grandmother was a wonderful artist and seamstress; I loved watching her create her couture dresses and beautiful quilts. She taught me so much about sewing, design__ and how to make a warm cozy home. Growing up during the depression was a huge legacy she also instilled in me; never to waste and there was most always a re-use for any item. I guess that is why I love the older things, be it the architecture in the older homes to the styles of the furniture and clothes.
I also make my own original designs and creations, taking some of the styling from the 20's, 30's and 40's and blending for a new, fresher look. I shop the tag sales and antique stores to find some of my supplies. I also believe it is very important to recycle as much as I can; so I visit other seamstresses and alteration shops to make use of their discarded scraps and beads.
I love the creative freedom I feel when mixing fabrics and embellishments that in the past would never have been put together. The look and the textures of silks in contradiction with faded jean, vintage lace, and embroidered linen flowers with glass beaded vines.
I will be adding more of my art and any interesting treasures, I find; along the way, with some tips on finding your own treasures through junking and creative fun projects. I hope you visit often and feel free to drop me a note if you have question or would like something special made for you.
Graciously yours,
Sherri
